For those who commented yesterday, I ended up spending a bit more and buying a Lumia 640. Pretty happy with it so far, the only snag is Internet Explorer is a bit crappy (it wont let me recommend posts on kinja for some reason) but I assume there are other browser options.

Aww...I checked out oppo on Internet Explorer for PC just now and it doesn’t look like crap anymore. They fixed everything.

I just got a cheap Lumia 530 to replace my broken s4 (Samsung service blows). The nokia’s wifi is lacking and windows mobile. But it is cheap and works.

I can’t recommend anything on Oppo anymore, clicking the little stars sometimes reloads the page or takes me back to the top of the page, and I’m on Safari.

Yay for new phones! I’m getting mine in the next month or so. An LG G4 in black leather. For a 20-year-old who spent every teenage year with a cellphone, I really couldn’t care less about its capabilities. All I want is a decent camera and a decent battery, and when I found out this thing is made of real, actual, genuine leather, the novelty factor made up my mind for me. I just wish my carrier offered the blue or yellow leather, but black is still cool.

I looked at the 530/ 535 and they seemed decent enough, but there were a few things on it I didn’t like. Certainly good for the money though. I could’ve got the 535 for £70 and had to pay £130 for the 640.

It’s apparently being replaced with a proper browser, you may not even need to dl chrome (you probably will).

I wanted the G4c originally but it was a bit of a stretch money wise, since I had to buy the phone off contract. The leather finish is really cool.

If the Edge browser gets a good extension ecosystem at least as good as Firefox’s, I will leave Firefox for the new Edge browser, it’s that good.

It’s being replaced by Edge browser (codenamed Spartan). So Windows will still come with a preinstalled browser, just not IE. Supposedly it will have addon support for stuff like adblock

On safari (iPhone 5s-sim card = iPod touch) and things are off, but I can eventually reply and recommend after some random touching.

Yeah... Kinja blows chunks on mobile IE. And there are no other browsers. Much like with iOS, you’re only allowed to use the IE core for other browsers so while there might be other browsers in the store, they’re just IE with a different skin (or Safari with a different skin, if using iOS).

Ah, yeah, that would be a deal-breaker for me, too. But yeah, the leather is really neat. It would be cool if they made one from recycled footballs. I don’t care for any sports other than hockey and motorsports, but that would just be cool.

They took the Chakra JIT engine and Trident rendering engine from IE11, forked it, and removed a couple hundred thousand lines of legacy cruft. Anything to do with ActiveX is gone; it doesn’t even support ActiveX plugins. It adds WebGL support, it adds asm.js support, it uses a whole new integrity level security model, it’s going to be updated far more often since it’s a Universal App now.

They’ve promised that they’re going to add API support for extensions, but sadly those aren’t coming until after the July 29th launch of Windows 10, so I’m going to wait until that point to see if it’s worth switching to, as I use a lot of extensions.

Ah I see, that’s a bit shitty. Hopefully windows 10 brings a better browser. It’s literally the only thing I dislike about the phone so far.
